They have 282,000 members in the active service and terms of service are between 12 to 18 months. Colombia’s imported goods are electrical and transportation equipment’s. Vegetables products, industrial metals, minerals, paper product and paper are also imported goods.

Exported goods include coffee, textiles, leather products, bananas, and tobacco. Defending the Right to Health in Colombia The problem with the health-care institutions of Colombia started twenty years ago when they gave control to private insurance companies. The hospitals in Colombia were either closed down, defunded or became a profit health care machine. These tactics were called neoliberal health care reform. Neoliberal healthcare reform destroyed public hospital around the country. This is truly a sad state when the government begins to try to make a profit off their own people lives.

The impact of the neoliberal health care reform left many people without their Jobs. Mother and child Institute was the oldest maternity hospital in Colombia, and had good workers. In 2006 workers arrives to this hospital to find out that the doors were lock. Ana Karenina Gauna a liquidator for the state told these workers they were reconstructing a new hospital and in order to be hired they had to sign resignation letters. And when it came time to hire the people back they didn’t, leaving hundreds of workers without a Job. Most people lost their pensions, social security, and some lost even their retirement benefits.

This is a horrible greedy act that occurs all over he world. This article shows how the government has lack of respect and kindness for their own. However, there were a group of workers that did not sign these letters. The workers who didn’t sign these letters stayed and protest on the behalf of the 1700 people who lost their Job. They weren’t welcome and had to stay in the closed down portion of the hospital. There is a healthcare crisis in Colombia that started with these reforms. The private insurance companies have ruined millions of families in Colombia.

Plan Colombia Plan Colombia is a term used to refer to U. S. egislation to stop drug smuggling. This plan was initiated in 1998 by the administration of Pastrana, with the goals of ending Colombian armed forces. The Plan Colombia also created an anti-cocaine strategy. Plan Colombia includes sections which address social aid and institutional reform, the initiative has come to be regarded by its critics as fundamentally a program of counternarcotic and military aid for the Colombian government. In the United States, Plan Colombia is seen as part of the “War on Drugs”, which was started under President Nixon in 1971.

Plan Colombia has numerous supporters in the United States Congress. Congressional supporters assert that over 1,300 square kilometers of mature coca were sprayed and eradicated in Colombia in 2003, which would have prevented the production over 500 metric tons of cocaine, stating that it eliminated upward of $100 million of the unlawful income that supports drug dealers and different illegal organizations considered terrorist in Colombia, the U. S. and the Prominent in the aid package approved by former President European Union.

Clinton is the “Push into Southern Colombia”, an area that for decades has been a onopoly of Colombia’s largest guerrilla organization FARC, which is also a major coca-producing region. His funding was earmarked for training and equipping new Colombian army counternarcotic battalions, providing them with helicopters, transport and intelligence assistance, and supplies for coca eradication. I believe this plan started with good attentions, however with politics and government involved, the plan itself has come corrupt. Colombia’s Two Front War The Colombia’s Two Front War is article depicting a country in need of help.

The Country is struggling with the war of drugs in control of the country itself. With the smuggling of drugs the country needs help from the outside. You have three different groups overrunning the country. You have the Paramilitaries (right wing) that are allied with the drug traffickers. Then you have the Guerillas (left wing) who are drug traffickers themselves. And 3rd you have the actual drug traffickers. All of this corruption has caused for Colombia too have the biggest corruption cases in the world. All of these groups use and abuse the poor people of their country.

Because of this act they have created many rebellion groups; the most famous one is FARC. So with corrupted politicians, parties, drug traffickers, and rebellion groups this has caused the down pour of Colombia. Conclusions The current condition of Colombia is not a good one. From government corruption to healthcare reform I believe the state of which this country is headed is not a good one. It’s up to the people inside the country to rise up and take their country back. The U. S. Should steps in in try to help with the many problems the country are facing in a diplomatic way.

Colombia is a beautiful country as a land, but the root of the problem is the government. I would not recommend anyone going to visit Colombia at the moment, it’s still dangerous. In 2010 they elected a Juan Sanatos as their new President. He is trying to come up with peaceful solutions between all of the groups. Colombia has a long way to go if they wanted to improve equality, human rights, and the economic process, but I believe they can reach this goal with a continuous peace talk between their people. The can become a civil democratic country they say they are.
