In the beginning both are Just nstitutions of learning, as Eton was simply founded by the king so commoners could get an education they otherwise would not be able to afford, but the surrounding affluent environment allowed it to grow. Pacific collegiate was merely a school mad to keep boys of the streets, but its popularity allowed it to reach academy status.

Academies have educators addressed as professor while Schools have simple teachers addressed as mms or Mr. These two pinnacles are often seen as a measure of how successful a school is and this also means that a school can switch between the two statuses. However as success is often perceptual the University of Texas may appear to be an academy to an average Texans but maybe seen as a school to Californians who have UCLA and Berkeley. An academy’s affluence may easily be seen as mediocrity by others and it is this that drives competition through school systems. For there cannot be schools without academies and vice versa
