Arbaaz Syed December 9, 2013 Mrs. Bocking Research Paper Negative Aspects of Technology: How do aspects of technology impair high-school students in their daily life? The antiquity of technology is as old as human life and the reason for this to be is that the usage of technology came into existence when the humans existed. Technology has had a prodigious progress since ages that is from mastery of fire by man to rockets, electronics, computers, and etc. The technologies that evolved in the past and even now have had made our lifespan contented where people nowadays are utterly dependent on the technology.
According, to a dictionary the delineation of technology is given as “the sum of the ways in which social groups provide themselves with the material objects of their civilization” (“Technology,” 2013). This brings on to us that the technologies that we utilize has become as part of our being. However, the advancements in technologies have made an individual’s life easier, better, or comfortable; but on the other hand there are many negative impacts of technology that go through in their lives. In addition to that, there are several factors which supports that the technology has adverse effects on the society.
In fact, technology is not always green; while new and rapidly advancing knowledge will assuredly become a dominant force in shaping the future of the mankind. As well, technology has blended in with daily activity to develop a way of life and certain individuals today take for granted all of which is automated. It is knowingly difficult for individuals including students to envision a world that existed without all those gadgets, electronics, and seamless operations computer technology provides.
In many ways technology has improved one’s quality of life, but as with anything else; here are always some adversative aspects in using of technology. Individuals whom are considered to be high-school students are affected by constant distraction, lack of social bonds, and addiction by using technology daily. In terms of constant distraction, we as individuals focus on a certain device instead on what’s going on around us which we usually tend to miss it. Although, many devoted technology users in such of high-school students have become more capable to handle multitasking.
And, scientific studies have shown that the effects of using a type of technology may be opposite of these conceptions. Today, technology has become more than Just using a computer at work; yet it has become a perpetual stream of information flowing into our lives through the mobile technology. The social media also plays a role in our Canadian society which can lead to distractions. According to an article in Time Magazine, 8-18 years of students spend 7 hours and 38 minutes a day in using entertainment media.
When they are absorbed into it, that social and entertainment media becomes a constant distraction. Moreover, these distractions can affect the students in developing their brains in which it can lead to continuous artial attention (CPA). There are also rises in the number of injuries incurred by people texting wnlle walKlng. “Spen01ng too mucn time on tecnnology can affect wltn various distractions on not by attempting to do important work” (Simpson, 2013).
This would be evidently depicted within the students that attend their schools where they spend plenty of time on their gadgets; but as obvious they won’t ensure in doing their school homework or any work that is important. Thus, the focusing on numerous tasks at once changes the way people think and behave due to continuous ursts of new information led by constant distractions. Moreover, the creation of a lasting bond with other individuals entails face-to-face interaction. And, the more we isolate ourselves with the technology means that the fewer bonds we will form within a society.
In terms of that, people are anticipated to do more work at home which takes away time for them on spending it with their families. In fact, “many people are involved in an abundant number of relationships through technology, but sometimes the quantity of these associations leaves people feeling qualitatively empty’ (Simpson, 2013). The social isolation is again characterized by the lack of contact with other people in ordinary daily living; such as in the workplace or with your peers.
The reality in our society can deem that we as individuals isolate ourselves by walking around in our own self-minded world; where we tend to listen to songs on our iPods or Just perhaps staring at the screen on our device. This all can whereby lead to the effects of being depressed with consisting in of the lack of human contact. To add on, “educators worry that such mood changes may especially keen for young people, whose entire social network may be occurring online or ot” (Szumski and Karson 36).
Therefore, the usage of technology by high-school students can lead to the limitations on of the lack in social bonds within your peers. However, students are not only dependent on the technology, but they are also addicted to it. Many of them, even when given the opportunity to get outdoors and play, often prefer the seclusion of playing on their computer or with their video games. It has been speculated by their parents of that many online gaming are very addicting. Furthermore, studies have also concluded that it is possible to become ddicted to video games and the internet.
For instance, if we look at a family member that may be addicted in spending a lot of time on the internet or in Just gaming; they then eventually become increasingly petulant without it which withdraws from their friends, family, and or community life. Due to this, this can as well result in depression, low self-esteem, and poor social skills. In addition, if an individual is an addict and Just comforts in their home and not go outside to manage the shape of being active; it can cause an effect of being obese. Laziness also plays a huge role in sing technology because 2 out of 3 people have health risks concerning their weight.
And, individuals which are obese have unhealthy diet due to the using of their technology where 2 thirds of citizens statically substantiate that they are overweight due to of being an addict. Statistics now seem to indicate this to be the truth and perhaps the lack of mobility is increasing obesity in society as a whole; in which it’s a distinct negative effect for them. Consequently, spending hours in front of a screen, whether it is a television or a computer, can quickly contribute to a serious ecrease in the amount of physical activity that an individual gets during a day Just by being an addict to it.
They should need at least 60 minutes of physical activity each day to maintain a healthy weight and not obtaining to get very obese. All in all, tnere are many negatlve aspects 0T tecnnology In wnlcn It Impalrs Inalvlauals In sucn of high-school students in their daily life-time. As technology advances it may have causes on people to consist of being distracted, overly stressed by the lack of social bonds which promotes an increased isolation within them, and also the effects of being an addict.
