Sampling plan Our target population is the youth, from ages of 16 to 23. They represent the young adults and teenagers of the area’s population and are the most easily influenced individuals of the society. Our target population are college and high school students or recently graduated high school students. The data collection method used will be a self-administered questionnaire handed to the prospective respondents and collected right after the 10 minutes needed for the individual to complete answering the questionnaire.

Our sampling frame will consist of university of SQU students and high school students from various schools in Muscat. The sampling method that would be appropriate considering the time frame and lack of resources of probability sampling data available would be a non-probability sampling method, a convenience method to be more precise. We will distribute our questionnaires in schools and colleges where the youth population and our target market are mostly found.

The sampling size will be 50 individuals, to ensure the variability and hopefully the ccuracy of the data obtained because the amount is not too small to reduce the chances of generalizability nor too large to require additional and unnecessary resources, this sample size has been selected based on subjective and intuitive judgements. The operating plan for selecting the sampling units at the schools and colleges starts by handing out the questionnaires to self-selected respondents while providing assistance and clarifications if needed, especially in schools and then collecting them.

The strengths of Shell in my perspective are their extreme focus on he quality of their products and the fact that Shell’s lubricants are semi manufactured and mixed locally, which gives Shell Oman a competitive advantage when it comes to high volume accessibility. When it comes to weaknesses, I find that employees’ lack of adaptability with certain new tools such as the CRM system an issue, due to the high cost of this system and lack of use it does seem like a great loss.

The potential of a new product being introduced to Shell’s line of products is a great opportunity for Shell Oman’s sales to go up, especially since this new product ould be more appealing to customers cost wise and would adapt quite well in Oman’s current market. The competition of companies such as BP and Maha is a great threat to shell as there’s a constant battle over the largest slice of the market share, competitive pricing is one of those issues arising due to the fierce competition.

I have learned a lot about upselling during my internship with shell, a day before my first customer visit and it was to a large construction company, my mentor Mahmoud talked to me about the objectives of that customer visit and it was to first give some echnical advice about our product to this existing customer and to try to get him to start buying a more synthetic type of lubricant that would very much approve their machines engines’ life and quality and that product is a lot more expensive. , the technical expert and my mentor visited the customer and after a long discussion about the advantages of this product the customer decided that buying the more synthetic product would indeed be a much better investment towards the long run, ana tnat Is now I learned ana wltnessea now upselllng works In a real Duslness nvironment.

I would suggest some more sales focused courses to be introduced to the major courses plan in the College of economics and political science, along with some topics related to negotiation skills since I have found that they are pretty necessary in the current business environment. Conclusion To conclude, the internship experience at Shell exceeded my expectation, it was educating and interesting at the same time.

I have acquired many useful skills during my time there, sales and marketing skills and I have learned a lot from each and very person there considering the fact that they were always helpful and welcoming when it came to any question I had. I have also made a great use of the services and educational tools provided by the company such as Shell’s Open University and through that I have passed a course in branding, the information I have acquired through this generous service will most certainly come to use in the future and for that I am more than Just thankful.

Pricing technique skills, negotiation skills, communication skills and planning skills are the major skills I have acquired hroughout this internship with the help of the wonderful employees at Shell Oman Marketing. Of course this is merely the first step of a long path of improvement ahead, I would very much like to improve my planning and negotiation skills and perhaps try out a new field and market.

This internship has given me an insight into what is out there in the real world of business and because of this experience I believe that I yet have a lot to learn and hopefully I will do Just that.
