While technology is becoming a larger part of education, the merit of putting pencil to paper is valid today and must not be left behind in light of these modern advancements. Technology should not be taking over the way we educate people but only be supplementary.
The key to technology being a supplementary tool s to integrate technology in form of online websites and computer programs. The balance of technology and textbooks needs to be evened out. The cost of educating a student needs to be reduced as the budget for education has begun to lessen slowly. The solution to hybrid programs costing too much and not working well enough is a program like the Florida Virtual School. Forms of technology in education are computer programs, online learning programs, and research finding sites.
Sites like SIRS and EBSCO are used in colleges to find articles for research papers, while SIRS focuses on social issues. Online learning programs are for example, NS Online for Nashville State community college, which creates a place for students to access teachers and access schoolwork and Microsoft documents. Computer programs might be a program that is loaded onto a computer or tablet and used to complete schoolwork. There is concern that the quality in online education is low and depersonalized when the opposite can be true.
The fact is that online education is personalized and the student can progress as fast or as slow as they like on many of these options for online education. [It is important to recognize that “online learning” omes in a dizzying range of flavors, ranging from simply videotaping lectures and posting them online for anytime access, to uploading materials such as syllabi, homework assignments, and tests to the internet, all the way to highly sophisticated interactive learning systems that use cognitive tutors and take advantage of multiple feedback loops.
Online learning can be used to teach many kinds of subjects to different populations in diverse institutional settings. ](Bowen) Cost of education needs to be reduced as the prices of textbooks and materials rise and budget cuts increase for schools. The simple answer to this problem is to reate a hybrid program like the FLVS, the Florida Virtual school, a hybrid version of the traditional classroom.
Cost has been cut down significantly and the quality in the education is still there. The FLVS is physically taking place in a traditional classroom where schoolwork is done on computers. The schools are local and the students are only local students, and the students are monitored to make sure they are staying on task. The concept of the FLVS is that the students attend a traditional classroom setting but with more technology and the students work from home as well as from school.
